Wreck Exterior Survey

This course will provide the diver with the skills and knowledge needed to maximize experiences and minimize risks in wreck diving. Wreck diving (external survey) is defined as diving around a sunken vessel, aircraft or debris field.

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS

Coverage will include safety, hazards and cautions, special risks of overhead environments, entanglement, limited visibility, deep diving, equipment (additions and modifications), location of wrecks, sources for information, search methods, underwater navigation, legal aspects, artifacts, treasure, salvage, archaeology and appropriate material from other specialty courses. If altitude diving is involved, altitude procedures and flying after diving shall be covered.

PREREQUISITES FOR ENTERING THE COURSE

Age. Minimum is 18 years. Certification: Advanced Scuba Diver certification or the equivalent is required.

COMPLETION FOR CERTIFICATION
4 Class Rooms (3 hours each)
2 Pool Sessions
2 Dives Minimum

In these classes you will learn how to use a reel, pony bottle, ship terminology, standard ship layout, underwater surveying and shipwreck penetration, just to name a few skills.

You need to have an Advanced Certification and be at least 18 years old for the Basic Shipwreck Class.
You need to have completed the Basic Shipwreck class for the Advanced Shipwreck Class.

Wreck Penetration

This course is to provide the diver with the skills and knowledge needed to maximize experiences and minimize risks in wreck diving. Wreck diving (penetration) is defined as diving inside a sunken vessel, aircraft or similar structure.

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS

Coverage will include safety, hazards and cautions, special risks of overhead environments, gas management, entanglement, limited visibility, deep diving, equipment (additions and modifications), location of wrecks, sources of information, search methods, underwater navigation, legal aspects, artifacts, treasure, salvage, archaeology and appropriate material from other specialty courses. If altitude diving is involved, altitude procedures and flying after diving shall be covered.

PREREQUISITES FOR ENTERING THE COURSE

Age. Minimum is 18 years. Certification: Advanced Scuba Diver certification or the equivalent is required.  Wreck Diver (External Survey) certification or the equivalent is required.

Additional gear required: (some gear is available for rent)

1.                    Alternative first and second stage attached to either doubles with manifold or large
                       capacity single tank (98 cuft or larger) with an H-valve.
2.                    Stage/pony bottle with first & second stage & SPG with clips (at least 30 cuft)
3.                    5 to 7 foot low pressure hose for second stage.
4.                    A submersible pressure gauge.
5.                    Depth gauge and automatic bottom timer and/or dive computer.
6.                    Buoyancy Compensator with power inflator.
7.                    Exposure suit adequate for the open water environment.
8.                    Slate, 2 Knives, lights (1 must be at least 6.6 watt), reel (250 feet) and lift
                       bag (50 lbs or larger).

9.                    Dive tables - Navy air decompression.

Cylinder and Regulator properly labeled and cleaned as required for EAN mixtures.
